How the surfboard will hold you in the direction of travel depends on the size of the fins. Riding without fins is like on ice. Small fins are great if you want to practice tricks where you slip your tail. However, if you want to ride a proper carving and rely on the fins to hold you in the corner, you will need something bigger. But everything depends not only on fins, it also depends on the location of the finbox. If you have finboxes closer to the tail, generally the board will hold direction more and vice versa.
